A group built one kitchen at a time

Opal Group operates restaurants in and around Pittsburgh. Not one concept repeated six times, but six kitchens that each had to earn their own room.

That means a Shanghainese kitchen folding soup dumplings by hand on Sidney Street, a sushi counter downtown running an omakase seating and a rooftop bar in the same building, Korean barbecue built for a long table, and a Fuzhou kitchen working from stocks rather than heat. A bakery and a buffet are on the way.

We are deliberate about which of these are ours. Some we built. Two we operate under license from restaurant groups whose reputation was made long before Pittsburgh had a location, and we say so on those pages rather than letting a logo imply otherwise.

The through line is not a cuisine. It is that each room is run by people who know that food, with the standards that food deserves.
